Hi all Anyone looking for a primary light. I have a Greenforce lighting system that I would like to sell on. It's a great light in full working order. The Greenforce product is a modular product so you can replace/upgrade light heads, batteries/mounting systems. The configuration I have is for mounting the battery to your cylinder and hand mounting the torch head. Comes with two different sized batteries, spare tank mount, spare tank mount strap, charger. Not sure of exact burn times but the Large battery will cover my 3 1/2 hour Blairgowrie dives. Will let it go for a bargain $300. Inspect at Frankston South if required or I can bring it to the next club meeting. Will post at cost if required. Ian

I'm using my time off work to clean up some papers and I uncovered this little hand-grenade from the past. A long, long time ago, before social media was invented the only place you could attempt a cage-rattling rant was to write a letter to the Editor. This opinion piece about a diving near-miss was published in Dive Log in June 1993. From memory I did cop some flak from a couple of DM's for writing it, but I like to think this practice by the charter boat / course instructor is no longer continued.

Please post diving events, photos and anything else you think related to the Victorian Sub-Aqua Group! :-) Established in 1954 and going stronger than ever, the Victorian Sub-Aqua Group (VSAG) is one of Australia's oldest non-commercial scuba diving clubs, renowned for its safe approach to diving. We believe that VSAG is Melbourne's friendliest and most active independent dive club- we are independent of any dive shop or diver service. We are not a charter boat service, we do not offer training nor do we hire gear. VSAG is run by and for its members as a club for divers, not for profit. Divers are expected to supply all their own gear and help in launching and retrieving boats. VSAG meets 7pm for an 8pm start, on the third Thursday of every month at The Clare Castle, 354 Graham St, Port Melbourne VIC 3207 Many VSAG members arrive at 7pm for a meal together before the meeting. Visitors are always welcome at these general meetings and the dinner beforehand. Guest speakers, video and photo presentations are typically a feature of these meetings. Please see our website at www.vsag.org.au for more information. Or visit our Facebook page and like us: https://www.facebook.com/vsag.divers

The second part of our (Myself & Matthijs Smith) Photographic trip with #Redboats was a slack water dive on Lonsdale Wall. We were well inside the marine park so obviously the Crayfish were out in force. Why are they always in easy spots when you can't touch them, the least they could do was find a decent hole but oh no they just hang out on little ledges. There were a huge number of Blue Devils around as well and as usual the territory was superb. There were a few Wall virgin's on the boat - they now know what they have been missing out on. The last stop of the trip was some reef close into the heads north of Lonsdale Arches. We didn't have long to explore as we did the dive on what we had left in our cylinders. Its an area that is worth a good look on a day when the swell is down. Thanks to skipper Luke English for a great days diving.

Bischeno, Tas. Turned up to Tasmaniaβs best shore dive and immediately found a buddy to dive Fish Rock with. After lunch headed to the Gulch and unloaded my secret weapon. My aptly named Ocean Kayak. I paddled north and threw my anchor in for a lucky dip. It was a little pedestrian at first but I soon found some massive boulders, crays, boarfish, trumpeters etc. Did a little urchin smashing as well. Bischeno doesnβt disappoint.

Matthijs Smith and I joined a special #Redboats Photographic trip on Friday. First stop was Chinaman's Hat for some time with the Seals. These guys know how to have fun and we spent a happy hour in their company. Tricky little buggers to photograph though.

Taking up James text for a Friday Night shore dive in Williamstown we met at 5:30 at Katies Corner. Entering as the light was fading we spent close to 90 min with a max bottom depth of 3.5 metres. The visibility was pretty average until around the 70 min mark where it suddenly cleared.. Ironically just after my camera battery died. What a great way to end a week. Here are some of the better photos.

Popped down tot Blairgowrie yesterday for a midweek dive. Despite the rain the vis was excellent and I had the place all to myself. I was in the water for 3 hours 40 minutes and didn't get deeper than 3.1m. Most of this stuff was found in a relatively small area. It's great to see such a great variety of life. The one thing that eluded me was the Bronze Whaler which i'd seen video of there earlier in the day.

VIDEO
I reckon this video is worth a bit of discussion. I don't know if the boat was underpowered or had problems or not but it got me thinking there's some good lessons to be learnt here, certainly before any club trips to anywhere that has a bar. Firstly, if you look at the water swirling around the channel marker the tide is going out. That means incoming swells will stand up higher and steeper when they hit the force of the out-running water. Secondly, the outgoing tide is at about a 45 degree angle to the incoming swell. I reckon that helped him roll on the way back. When you commit to the run COMMIT to the run. Get some speed up between swells, back off to go over the next one. Yes, fair point he might have had engine trouble but he was running the engine before trying the bar, good practice to rev and test on the way. Lastly, on deciding to abort it looks like he might have gotten disoriented. If he aimed for the channel marker his boat is on a 45 degree angle to the swell, and by the time the swell got to him it was already too late. Any other thoughts?
